Innovative EnduraGuard® wood treatment protects Pella® wood products

Innovative EnduraGuard® wood treatment protects Pella® wood products. To provide stronger protection against moisture, stains and decay caused by mold and mildew, as well as termite damage, Pella provides its EnduraGuard wood treatment to help protect its wood windows and patio doors.

Introduced in 2006, EnduraGuard wood protection is a patented formula containing a combination of three active ingredients to provide better protection.

“The Pella EnduraGuard triple wood protection has greater than four times the concentration of protective ingredients than major competitors using immersion treatment,” said Dawn Worthington, associate product manager at Pella. “Plus, EnduraGuard has three active ingredients compared to only one active ingredient used by some other major competitors. This innovation will help Pella wood windows and patio doors look and perform beautifully for years to come.”

Protection process

Pella stores lumber indoors prior to use in the manufacture of its windows or doors. This helps keep the moisture content within the optimum range of 8 – 12 percent, reducing the risk of cracking, splitting or swelling once the wood window or door is installed.

When an order is placed for a Pella wood window or door, which includes Pella Architect Series®, Designer Series® and ProLine® products, the wood is chosen from the indoor storage and then cut to size. EnduraGuard — which does not discolor the wood — is applied after the wood part is formed and ready to assemble into the Pella window or patio door.

“This proven method creates stronger protection on surfaces and cut edges that may be exposed to exterior elements,” Worthington said.

Pella also treats wood window and door parts with EnduraGuard, including its wood and wood/clad windows, patio doors, commercial out-swing doors and exterior trim; and wood door frames and wood brickmould for steel and fiberglass entry doors.

Pella products treated with EnduraGuard protection can be finished with oil- or water-based paints or stains.

Commercial projects

“EnduraGuard triple wood protection is another reason to partner with Pella on building projects,” Worthington said.
