Every one of these is measured or decided at the estimate, which is why a real number needs a visit.
Every window is built to the exact size of your opening, and a larger opening is more frame, more glass and more labor to set and seal.
Vinyl, fiberglass and wood sit in three price tiers, in that order. The comparison below shows what each one gives you for the difference.
Two panes with a low-E coating and argon is the sensible Michigan baseline. A third pane, sound control or blinds between the glass each move the number.
A double-hung and a picture window are ordinary openings. A bay, a bow, an arched head or a wall of dormers changes the material and the labor at once.
Soft wood at a sill, or sheathing that has taken water behind the siding, only shows itself once the trim comes off. It is the single biggest reason we measure before quoting.
The setup, the floor protection and the haul-away happen once whether the crew hangs three windows or thirteen, and most homeowners still replace in stages.
