Choose a Door
A door is chosen twice: once for where it goes and once for what it is made of. Start here, with the opening. Every one of these is custom built to your actual rough opening and backed by the same 15-year labor warranty.
The front door, with or without the narrow sidelites beside it. This is the one that sets the tone for the whole front of the house, and the one a stranger judges first. Fiberglass or steel, glass or solid, in a finish you pick rather than one the big-box store had in stock.
Two leaves that meet in the middle and open into a much wider opening than a single door can. Worth it when the entry is grand enough to carry it, or when furniture has to get through. Both leaves are hinged, so nothing is lost to a fixed panel.
One panel glides sideways past a fixed one. Nothing swings into the room or out onto the deck, which makes it the practical answer for a patio where a chair or a grill sits close to the wall. Big glass, small footprint.
A glass door on hinges next to a fixed glass panel. It swings clear like a real door, so the whole opening is usable, and it seals against the frame rather than riding in a track. Available with blinds sealed between the panes.
A painted aluminum door that hangs in front of the entry door and takes the weather so that door does not have to. Full-view models swap the glass for a screen when spring comes, so you can leave the front door open and still keep the bugs outside.

Is It Time?
A door tells you it is finished long before it falls apart. If two or three of these sound like your front door, a new one costs less than another winter of the old one.
A door that needs a shoulder has swollen, sagged on its hinges, or both. The frame has moved, and no amount of adjusting the strike plate puts it back.
Stand inside with the lights off. Any line of light you can see is a line of cold air coming in, and a weatherstrip replacement will not close a gap that size.
Press the bottom few inches of the door and the sill under it. If it gives, water has been sitting there for seasons and it is into the frame by now.
Feel along the floor at the door on a January morning. A draft you can track with your hand means the threshold and sweep have given up their seal.
Security is the frame as much as the deadbolt. If the jamb moves when you pull the handle, the strike has nothing solid left to hold onto.
Chalky, peeling, or checked surfaces have lost the coating that was protecting them. Repainting a door in that condition buys a season, not a decade.
We do not publish a price per door, because an honest one does not exist. A storm door and a double entry with sidelites are not close to the same job. Cost tracks the size of the opening, the material, the glass and hardware you choose, and what the crew finds once the old frame comes out. What we promise is the full number in writing at the estimate, before anything is ordered, with no pressure to sign that day.

Is It Time?
A door has a harder life than a window. It gets pushed, pulled, kicked at the bottom, rained on, and frozen shut, and it still has to seal on all four sides every time it closes. A modern replacement door answers that with a foam-filled core instead of hollow air, a Low-E insulated glass package where there is glass, and a frame built to your opening rather than trimmed to fit it on the day. What you notice is simpler: it latches with one hand, the entry stops feeling like the coldest room in the house, and the front of the house looks cared for again.

A door is a one-day job done right and a lifetime of annoyance done wrong. Four steps, one point of contact, and a house that is closed up before we leave.

We measure the rough opening, check the sill and the framing around it, and give you straight numbers in writing. You can also come open and close the options yourself at our 4,000 sq. ft. Southgate showroom.

Widths and heights are made to your measurements rather than picked off a rack, so the door fills the hole it was built for. You choose the slab, the glass, the finish and the hardware before anything is ordered.

Our own factory-trained crew pulls the old unit, checks what is behind it, sets the new frame plumb and square, seals it, and finishes the trim. Floor protection goes down before the old door comes off.

We open, close, lock and unlock the door with you, adjust the threshold and the strike, haul the old unit away, and register your 15-year labor warranty before we go.

Steel is the value and security answer: a heavy 20-gauge skin over a foam core with a composite lock block behind the deadbolt. Fiberglass is the answer when you want the look of stained wood on a door that never needs refinishing, and it holds up better to a door that gets full sun all afternoon. We show you both at the estimate rather than steering you to one.
Usually yes, and it is the part that matters most. A new slab hung in an old, out-of-square frame will never seal properly no matter how good the door is. We measure the rough opening so the whole unit, frame and door together, goes in as one piece.
Most single entry doors are done in a day. Patio doors and double entries can run longer, especially if the framing behind the old unit needs attention. Your house is never left standing open overnight, and we tell you the schedule at the estimate rather than on the day.
Yes. That is the advantage of ordering rather than buying off a shelf. Finishes, glass and hardware are chosen at the estimate, and we keep your order on file so a door you add later still matches the one you have.
For most Michigan entries, yes. A storm door takes the wind, rain and road salt so your entry door does not, and a full-view model swaps glass for screen so you can leave the front door open in spring and fall. It is also the cheapest door on the house by a wide margin.
Sliding when space is tight, because nothing swings into the room or out onto the deck. Hinged when you want the full opening usable and a door that seals against a frame instead of riding in a track. Both are available with blinds sealed between the panes so there is nothing to dust.
